What is Air Polishing?

Air Polisher

At Family Dentist Tree, we are always striving for the best. We frequently look at new products, tools, equipment and techniques to ensure we are able to provide each of our patients with the best care. We are excited to announce that we now have an air polisher to aid in teeth and implant cleanings!

What is air polishing?

The air polishing technique has been around since the late 1970’s; however, advancements have since been made in these units and in the way we use them. The handpiece uses air, water and non-toxic powder to remove plaque and stains. This process is not harmful to your teeth or implants and our patients have reported that it is comfortable, quick and painless.

When do we use it?

We use air polishing for a variety of reasons:

  • The first and most important use of our air polisher is for implant cleaning and maintenance. Air polishing around implants using a specific tip and glycine powder has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to clean around implants. If you are a patient that has a current implant, we will likely implement this technique at your next cleaning and check-up!
  • Air polishing can be very effective when using a sodium bicarbonate powder to
    • remove surface stain,
    • clean around orthodontics,
    • and in cases of heavy plaque buildup.

We look forward to seeing you for next cleaning and checkup, and we can’t wait for you to see our new air polishers!
